"We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t fuck them."

I think this is a completely acceptable proposal.

That just might be my new rule.  “If they don’t have books, they do not get laid.”

Guilding the Lily

I like pretty things.

If it is pretty I like it, I like surrounding myself with pretty things.

Things like flowers, jewlery, clothing, lace, blue skys, people, buildings, photography, movies, and even some types of cars.

Though a part of me wonders, do I use pretty things to make myself feel pretty?

I have a friend and this friend loves pretty things, and loves to buy pretty expensive things. Occasionally I wonder does she buy them because pretty things are hard not to want to own, or does she buy them because she needs them to feel pretty herself?

When I buy flowers do I buy them because they are pretty, or do I buy them so people will associate their prettiness with the room they are in, and essentially myself?

Guilding the lily is defined as adorning unnecessarily something already beautiful. Is this what I, my friend, and many other people are doing?

Do people using pretty things to make themselves feel beautiful, when they already are? Do these pretty things make us feel good or do they offer a pretty cubby hold for us to hide our insecurities in?

I don’t have answers for these questions, and I write this while I stare at flowers I insisted on buying, in my room surrounded by things I deem pretty.

Obviously I have chosen to dig myself into a hole of pretty things, and I hope that when I add more pretty things to my closet, my shelves, and my life that I am surrounding myself with things I love that just happen to be pretty, that I am using these things to enhance my life, not hide behind them.

5 Things that Are Weird

…About Me:

1. I get embarressed for people in movies, books, and television shows. This is why I love fast forwarding, I pretty much feel like crying everytime I was Never Been Kissed. I fast forward more that I actually watch it.

2. I don’t cry during chick flicks, but the typical “guy” movie always makes me cry. So do cartoon movies. For real though I didn’t even cry when I watched The Notebook however, I did cry a little at the end of I Love You Man, I ALWAYS cry while watching Shawshank Redemption…and oddly enough Monsters Inc.

3. Guys who have nicer hair than me make me uncomfortable. Also guys that wear make-up, fake tan, and use hair gel. Only one exception and that is Bradley Cooper, because he’s cute and funny.

4. People who can make me laugh will forever be my friends, and people I can make laugh will always be remembered. I’m not talking a small chuckle, but a real laugh  that actually can hurt or make you cry. I can’t forget those people, because for even just one second we understood each other.

5. I hate hating people when I have a reason to. I can dislike someone and even hate them occasionally for miniscule things, for example I dislike Megan Fox, not because she ever did anything to me obviously, but I dislike her because her face annoys me she just looks bitchy so I don’t like her. However, when someone actually does something wrong to me insults me, hurts me, or hurts someone I love I feel like I should give them numerous chances. I feel guilty for for hating someone that wronged me.
